Believing is Seeing
"Seeing is not Believing, Believing is
Seeing!" is one of my favorite quotes and it
comes from the Christmas movie, "The Santa
Clause". Sometimes we have a hard time believing
in things and we need to see something happen in
order to Believe. As a child most of us believed
in Santa Claus until we became older and our
friends who as soon as they had found out the
truth were quick to spread the word to
unsuspecting children who weren't quite ready to
quit believing in the jolly man in the red suit
who came every year to bring us presents.
Your Direct Selling business is a lot like
believing in Santa Claus! When you first joined
your Direct Selling company you were excited and
full of wonder and couldn't wait to begin! You
didn't need to see results to believe you could
find success! You knew very little about the
business but you had the enthusiasm and belief
of a small child. As a child you believed Santa
would bring you almost everything on your list.
As a new Direct Seller you believed you could
really make this business work and achieve all
your dreams and goals.
Along the way to success in your business you
began to run into the "naysayers", the people
who think they mean well (ha, who are they
trying to fool). They believe it's their job to tell you
their is no Santa Claus, oops, I mean, "there
is no way you can succeed in a business like
that." Well intentioned friends and family
members do their best to convince us to quit
while we are ahead. Heaven forbid we should keep on
believing when no one else does!
"Believing is Seeing", is one of the
most profound things ever spoken. When we
believe in ourselves and our business and
continue to do what needs to be done we will
soon see the results! Here are a few helpful
suggestions to help you continue to see your
Direct Selling business through the "eyes of a
child."
1. Go Back in your mind to when you first
joined your company. Why did you join? What
did you want to accomplish? Do you still have
the enthusiasm and excitement you did when you
first joined? If not, why not? Keeping focused
on why you joined will help you stay motivated
and excited all the time!
2. Rewrite Your Goals. Did you write
down your goals? Did you create an action plan?
Do you keep on track? What do you do when you
aren't reaching your goals? Continually ask
yourself questions and be honest with yourself
when you are answering them. If you continue to
make excuses for what's not happening in your
business you never find a way to make it work!
By the way, if you haven't written them down,
shame on you! Take time to do it now. Don't
under-estimate the importance of continually
setting goals, writing them down and creating
action plans to reach them. Every time your
company announces a new contest, promotion, trip
or other award you need to decide what you want,
write it down and get working on the action plan
you will take!
3. Listen to Motivational and Training
Materials. It's not always easy to stand up
to the negative people who are trying to get you
to come to your senses. In fact these people
will suck the life out of you if you let them.
If find the easiest way to keep myself on the
right track is "to pump up my mind" with good
stuff. Over the years I've listened to Zig
Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Jack Canfield,
Mark Victor Hansen, and many others. I exercise
with my CD player and headphones and I take time
daily to work on my "mental attitude." Oh yeah,
my stuffs pretty good too!

4. Keep a "Good Things" List. I
continually take time to write down everything I
am thankful for in my life and in my business.
Every great Hostess and party, every new
recruit, every contest you win will give you
something to celebrate! By taking time to focus
on the good you'll have a lot less time to dwell
on the pessimistic thoughts that have been
passed on to you through others.
5. Control Your Thoughts and Keep them
Positive. This is probably one of the
hardest things to do. Staying positive in a
negative world is like trying to keep your ice
cream cone from melting. In order to keep from
losing a single precious drop of that delicious
ice cream we keep licking the ice cream. Every
time we see a drip appear we lick it again!
That's the same way you need to approach your
thoughts and attitude. You want to keep from
losing any ground and in order to do that you
need to keep your thoughts positive. Every time
a negative thought pops into your head pretend
your are licking your ice cream cone and replace
your negative thought with a positive one!
6. BELIEVE YOU CAN AND YOU WILL! As
soon as you begin to believe that you can
accomplish whatever you want to in your Direct
Selling business you will be amazed at "how
lucky" you will become. Things that once seemed
hard will become very easy. You will create an
abundance of bookings, sales, recruits, income
or whatever you believe you can accomplish.
Success will come to you naturally because you
Believe!
So it really is just like the movie, "The
Santa Clause", you don't need to "See to Believe
" in your success but you do need to "Believe to
See" your success! I believe you can be anything
you want to be, but it doesn't matter what I
believe, it only matters that you "Believe in
Yourself."

Making
a Difference
Have you read the book "The Five
People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom? I read the book and saw
the movie a few years ago. What an incredible story about the people whose lives we affect
without realizing it. It is also a story about the people whose life has
affected ours in
some way. Each person comes into our life for a reason! Our paths cross
and often we do not know what a difference we have made in some else's
life.
Isn't
it great to know that being in a Direct Selling business we have such a
great opportunity to have a positive effect on so many people? Are there
chance meetings or is it destiny that two people's paths cross? I feel it
could be a combination of both, but I also feel that we can go out of our
way to meet people and to introduce them to our company's products and
opportunity. I do believe that when you are convinced that you can
change someone's life for the better and you are passionate about your
convictions you will do whatever is necessary. You will make "chance
meetings" more prevalent and each encounter will be an opportunity to
help someone. Let's look at just some of the ways you can make a
difference in someone's life.
- You
are representing a company that has a great product. Your goal should
be to share the products with everyone you come in contact with. Show
your customer how you can help better their health, skin, home
environment, create traditions, capture memories, decorate with
designer taste, etc. by using your product. Ask this question, "Wouldn't
it be great if __________?" Example: "Wouldn't it be
great if you could capture the memories of your son's childhood with
an heirloom book that he will cherish forever?" BELIEVE THAT
THE PRODUCT YOU HAVE TO OFFER IS OF GREAT VALUE TO THE CUSTOMER!
- You
are probably with a company that offers rewards to Hostesses for
inviting you and some of their friends in for a fun
evening. You have the chance to help people earn products for free or
have a substantial savings on their product by becoming a Hostess. We
often hold parties for Hostesses who financially cannot afford to
order everything they like and love having the chance to earn products
by hosting a party. You are providing a great service to these
hostesses.
- You
have the opportunity to help people you meet realize their monetary
goals. Whether an individual would like to earn an extra $500 per
month or become financially independent, you can provide the vehicle
for this to happen when you sponsor these people into your company.
I'm not sure that most people are really aware of the opportunity they
have to touch and improve hundreds and thousands of people's lives
through sponsoring!
- You
have the chance to help people develop both personally and
professionally through the trainings and meetings offered through your
leaders as well as your company. Most people are not aware of the
motivation, recognition and development skills that are provided
through these events. YOU have the chance to help someone build his or
her self-confidence.
These
are just a few of the ways that you can impact the lives of the people you
meet through your direct selling business. I'm sure that when I reach
heaven I will have someone meet me whose life I influenced, if even in the
smallest way. I hope you take time to think about your business and the
great opportunity you have to meet and influence along the way.
