7 Proven Ways to Increase Your Income in Direct Selling

Isn't it funny that some people are sailing along making an incredible income from their Direct Selling business while others are struggling? Isn't it ironic that while some are complaining about the "horrible economy" others are making more than ever before?

During my many discussions with direct sellers I have noticed that most people expect certain things to happen in their business. Most of the time their expectations become their reality because what they expect to happen is what they focus on doing!

I happen to get very upset when someone says to me, "I think I'm going to leave the business because I'm not making the amount of money I want to make." It could be because they are not working the amount of hours they need to work the business in order to make the amount of money they want to make! Geeze, how long does it take someone to figure out they can't work four hours a week and make $100,000 a year. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Someone may say to me, "I'm going to give this business one more year and then if I'm not making the money I want to make, I'm quitting!" I'd like to just tell them to "QUIT NOW and put yourself out of your misery." You won't be making any more money a year from now than you are now because you "DON'T EXPECT TO." You have already sabotaged your business with the negative thoughts you put in your head.

Come on! YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS! You have just gotten sucked into the media's constant and never ending assault on the economy and tricked into believing no one has any money, gas is too expensive and we might as well just sit home and sulk all our problems away.

Here are some things you MUST DO to stay active and continue to grow your Direct Selling business.

1. HAVE A GOAL! On Wednesday, June 4, 2008 I excitedly sat in front of the television watching the Detroit Red Wings play the Pittsburgh Penguins (hockey teams in case you are not a fan) in the 6'th game of the Stanley Cup Finals. Both teams were focused on GETTING THE PUCK INTO THE NET and KEEPING THE PUCK OUT THEIR ZONE! Both teams had a goal. Put the puck in the net, score more goals than the opposing team and win the game. Just imagine how silly the players would have looked had they been skating around with no goals on either end of the rink. How would they be able to determine if they had reached their goal of winning the game?

If you have not been achieving the results you want in your business it's most likely because "You don't know what you want!" Do you want to earn $1,000 per month in your business? Do you want to earn $5,000 a month in your business? Do you want to earn $20,000 a month in your business? YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT! You have to know why you want it! You have to know what you are willing to do to get it! If you have been reluctant to set a business goal I strongly advise you to do so NOW! Don't wait. 2. STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE! Yuck, I don't have time for them. I don't have the energy to fight off the funk I get in when I'm surrounded by negative people. Negative people drain your energy. You need to have 10 positive thoughts put into your subconscious for every negative thought. So, if you can't get rid of the negative people you darn well better be listening to some motivational tapes!

I'm including the media when I'm talking about negative people. Will watching people being interviewed about the gas prices help you reach your goals today? Will it help your situation to know how many deaths or shootings were in the surrounding 100 miles of where you live?

3.  EXPECT GOOD THINGS TO HAPPEN! There's an old song out entitled "Do you believe in MAGIC" by the Lovin' Spoonful. (Yes I know I'm dating myself) but the reality is we NEED TO BELIEVE IN MAGIC! We need to believe that good things can happen to us. We need to believe and expect that our business will succeed.

You have probably heard of "The Secret" and the "law of attraction." My sister had been watching some of the authors being interviewed on Oprah and she called me on the phone and said, "you've know about the secret for a long time, haven't you?" To which I responded, "of course, you become what you think about because when you THINK about it YOU DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE to get it accomplished."

You must focus on the good you want in your business and you will look for more ways to make the good happen! It's your choice. What do you want to happen in your business? It's your choice?

4. SET A SCHEDULE FOR YOUR BUSINESS ACTIVITIES. If you have or have ever had a job outside the home you were informed of the hours you had to work. It's easy to go to work when you are told you have to be there between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. That's it, cased closed, you are there from 8 - 5 or you lose your job.

Can you imagine how much easier this business would be if someone told you when you have to be to work. Create your own schedule and EXPECT YOURSELF TO GO TO WORK. It reminds me of something Nido Qubein said at a recent event for entrepreneurs, "The good news is YOU ARE THE BOSS! The bad news is you've got a lousy employee. It gets worse, you can't fire the employee."

You cannot be in a Direct Selling company and not go to work! I repeat you have to work in your business or you won't make money! I don't care what anyone else tells you, the truth is you can make an incredible income for the amount of time you invest in your business, but you do have to invest some time. It's time to make a decision of how many hours you are going to work your business and when you are going to work your business.

You'll be amazed that when you begin to work you will begin to make more money, earn more contests and prizes and have more abundance in your life!

5. CONSISTENTLY HOLD PARTIES! It comes back to setting a schedule. You need to have parties. Home parties and or any other type of group presentations are where  you will be able to introduce your products, hostess opportunity and business opportunity to others. You've set a schedule of when you want to work the business so decide how many parties per week you are going to hold, when you are going to hold them and get busy filling in your dates.

Booking parties is easy when you know and use your Hostess program, and Open Date Card and lots of booking seeds during your presentations. 6. CONSISTENTLY HOLD INTERVIEWS! There is one activity that will get you more recruits, the Interview! Instead of trying to talk someone into joining your company it's important to find out why they might be interested, how much income they would like t earn and what they would do with the income from their direct selling business. It is much easier to get a signed agreement when your prospect feels that the business opportunity you offered could be the answer she was looking for.

Interview is a multi-step process of asking questions, explaining how to join, answering questions, get a "Yes" and assigning homework. Look for upcoming Leadership calls that will focus on the interview techniques that will improve your new consultants' success!

7. TRAIN YOUR NEW RECRUITS! If you are going to recruit someone into your company than you should make sure that person is provided with training. Your company may have a fantastic training website for new recruits but the reality is, your new recruit needs some "hands on training" where you can teach how to be successful in the business.

Follow up at least once a week, for the first 6 weeks with your new recruit will help you discover any challenges you may have to help her overcome. Keep your new consultant focused on the goals she gave you at the interview and on the activities she needs to accomplish to reach these goals and watch the new recruits soar!

If you want to make sure your new consultant is trained set up a one-on-one training or have her attend a scheduled group training. If your new consultant lives a distance from you the training could take place by telephone. The bottom line is the more the new consultant knows and the more parties she does in her first 6 weeks in the business the greater her chances for success.

When you take the time to review these 7 steps and implement them into your business. you will see your success and your income increase. Your success comes from everything you say and everything you do, all the time!

How Much Are You Worth?

Do you find yourself complaining about the cost of meetings and trainings? Do you make excuses as to why you aren't going to attend the Annual Company Convention?

Let's say you attend a special meeting in your area. The cost for the event is $75 for a full day of training plus your lunch. You've listened to several people share how they succeeded. You take one or two ideas from the training and immediately implement them into your party. Because of these ideas you book five more additional parties this month and increase your earnings for the  month by over $500. Let me ask you a question. Was it worth spending $75 to make another $500?

Your company's Annual Convention is an investment in yourself and your business. The impact of seeing your peers recognized on stage can cause a spark within you to want to be on the stage next year. It doesn't matter whether you are a new consultant or a seasoned veteran with your company. Do what you can to be at the convention and I guarantee if you attend the meetings and trainings with an "open mind" and seek one or two gold nuggets to implement into your business, it will definitely worth the investment of your time and money!

When it comes to your education you cannot afford to be cheap. If you can't afford to attend meetings, annual meetings and conventions you need to be there more than ever. If you don't have the money to attend then you are not making enough money in the business. You need to be around and learn from people who are.

My advice to you is whenever your company or leader offers meetings, conventions, training seminars etc. you borrow the money if you have to and BE THERE! Your success with the company you are with could be just one "new idea" away! Make sure you attend your company's annual sales convention this year!

When you do what needs to be done, you will definitely reach the top! Where's your next "spark" going to come from?
